How you can help:
Donations – The Foundation regularly updates their brochure which lists a variety of forms of donations, including such as cash, life insurance or real estate. The brochure also indicates that gifts may be allocated for a specific purpose. All gifts are eligible for an official tax receipt.
Memoriam Gifts – A gift to the Reston & Area Foundation in memory of a friend or loved one will provide a lasting tribute and ongoing benefits to the community. The first memoriam donation was in 2006 in memory of Irma Braddell. Since then, …. memoriam donations have been received, contributing $.......... to the Foundation. The first instance of our foundation being suggested as the charity of choice was by the Walker family at the passing of Glen Walker – a fitting tribute to Glen who was an advocate of the Foundation.

Giving Through the Christmas Card Fund
In previous years, the Reston Lions Club collected monies in the community and published a greeting card in the Reston Recorder. Our Foundation has adopted and carried on this activity, the first appeal being made in 2007. Even on short notice there were 89 entries for the card and $991 was collected in pails located in 11 sites around our area.
In 2008, the Heart and Stroke Foundation ran a promotion for communities to purchase Automatic External Defibrillators to treat people experiencing heart failure. It was decided to dedicate the Christmas Card Fund to this cause and there was excellent response. Collections totaled $2,020 from 135 entries for the card. In addition, there were 7 contributions from organizations and business of $5,000 bringing the total to just over $7,000. With additional commitment from the RM of Pipestone there will be 5 defibrillators located in the area and available to groups as needed.
We have been asked to assist the local Fire Department in the purchase of new Jaws of Life. These are expensive items that, unfortunately, are needed all too often in emergency situations. The Board of the Foundation has decided that the Christmas Card appeal in December /09 will be dedicated to this cause. Anyone wishing to contribute for this purpose, at any time, needs only designate their donation as such. |
